We built this tool to help you get a real feel for your writing—whether you're fine-tuning an essay, drafting a blog post, or polishing a manuscript. Just paste your text in the box above to instantly see your word and character counts, plus helpful insights like reading time and grade level.
Handy Editing Tools
Counting is great, but editing is where the real work happens. We've packed the toolbar with features so you don't have to bounce between different apps to clean up your text:
- Case Converter: Change your text to Sentence case, Title Case, UPPERCASE, or lowercase in a single click.
- Clean Text: Banish weird formatting for good. Instantly fix broken email line-breaks, strip out invisible MS Word characters, or zap annoying double spaces.
- Find & Replace: Hunt down specific words with match-case support. Go step-by-step with "Replace One" or fix everything at once with "Replace All".
- Export Your Work: Done writing? Download your text directly to your device as a standard `.txt` file or a clean `.pdf` document.
- Auto-Save: Don't panic if you accidentally close the tab. We automatically save your drafts locally, and our Undo/Redo history has your back.

- Vocabulary: Check your "Unique Words" to make sure you aren't repeating yourself, and track your average word and sentence length.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is my text secure and private?
100% yes. This tool runs entirely in your browser using local JavaScript. Your text is never sent to, or stored on, our servers. What you write stays on your device.
How is Reading Level calculated?
We use the standard Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level formula. It looks at the total number of words, sentences, and syllables you've used to figure out a US school grade level. If your score is an 8.0, it means an 8th grader can comfortably read and understand your text.
What is the difference between regular words and "Publisher Words"?
A standard word count literally just counts the spaces between your words. But in the traditional publishing world, they use a standard rule where exactly 6 characters equals one word (5 letters plus a space). If you're an author or a transcriber, our "Publisher Words" stat calculates this for you automatically.
